OVERVIEW
The
simple truth is that to function properly, the
human body needs fuel, just like your car does.
You need to provide your body with that fuel.
The key is to make the right choices for that
fuel supply. Just as you make a conscious choice
of the grade of gasoline you put in your car,
you need to provide your body with foods having
the highest possible octane.
So
where do appetite suppressants fit into the
equation of weight management? Appetite suppressants
should NEVER be used with the intention of completely
eliminating a person's desire to eat. If you
were driving down the beltway and your gas gauge
was on "Empty", would you keep driving?
Of course not-you would get off and fill your
tank. . Feeling hungry is the equivalent of
your car's gas gauge pointing to the "Empty"
mark. It means that your body has used the previous
supply of fuel, and needs more food.
Appetite
suppressants however are very useful in the
management of non-hunger related eating such
as eating when you are stressed or bored, or
eating to satisfy pre-menstrual cravings, or
being unable to control portion size. In these
situations, they can be extremely helpful in
getting rid of self-destructive habits and developing
healthier attitudes toward eating. For many
people, these drugs represent the missing link
that has kept them from being able to control
their weight in the past.
Never
forget that like with any other chronic medical
problem such as hypertension or diabetes, no
medication will ever replace the need for your
involvement in your care in terms of healthy
eating practices and regular exercise.
